Micro-Pyrolysis Module: Eliminate Organic Interference in Water Isotope Analysis

Micro-Pyrolysis ModuleTM for H2O Isotopes

The fastest and simplest way to remove interfering organics from water samples for superior isotope analysis. Based on Picarro's unique patent-pending Micro-Pyrolysis TechnologyTM.

  • Dramatically improves data quality for water isotope samples tainted with organics
  • Thermally treats the sample in-line to selectively decompose interfering organics into non-interfering species (e.g., hydrogen, carbon)
  • Integrates directly and easily with existing Picarro systems for seamless operation and high-throughput, high-precision spectroscopy
  • Compatible with A0211 High-Precision Vaporizer
  • Low power draw (30 watts). Deploy in lab or field, anywhere on Earth

Micro-Pyrolysis ModuleTM (MPM) is Picarro’s breakthrough (patent-pending) technology that, for the first time, allows scientists to eliminate organic interferences to water isotope analysis in a fully in-line process integrated with sample vaporization and isotope ratio measurements. Integrated in-line between the water vaporizer (Picarro A0211) and any Picarro water isotope analyzer, the MPM uses Picarro's unique Micro-Pyrolysis TechnologyTM  (MPT) to rapidly heat samples in order to decompose interfering organic molecules. It does this without oxidation, so as not to create additional water that could affect measured isotope values.

MPT is also incorporated into the previously-announced IM-CRDS system for rapid water extraction and water isotope analysis of plant leaves, stems, soil and tissue samples. With MPT integrated directly into the IM-CRDS, scientists can eliminate organics in water samples either in the field or the lab and perform high-throughput, high-precision isotope analysis while minimizing sample contamination and maximizing sample purity.
