In 2023, Unitil, an investor-owned utility serving natural gas and electric customers across Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, launched a groundbreaking methane emissions assessment initiative. By leveraging Picarro’s Network Intelligence solution, Unitil improved the accuracy and efficiency of its methane emissions monitoring program. The initiative achieved outstanding results, demonstrating that actual methane emissions were significantly lower than previously estimated: 96% lower in Massachusetts, 84% lower in Maine, and 90% lower in New Hampshire. Moving forward, Unitil will continue using these insights to further optimize its emissions reduction strategies and advance its long-term sustainability goals.
