Company Receives Recognition For Picarro Surveyor™ Monitoring Technology

Santa Clara, Calif. – May 16, 2013 – Picarro Inc., the world's leading producer of stable isotope and greenhouse gas concentration measurement systems for science and industry, has been named a Gartner Cool Vendor for natural gas sensor and processing technology in the research firm's annual  "Cool Vendors in Energy and Utilities, 2013" report.[1] Gartner defines a Cool Vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are innovative, impactful and intriguing. New Vendors "permeate many areas of energy and utility operations to address increased customer expectations, better resource utilization, regulatory compliance and the smart grid data flood".

"We know that with Picarro Surveyor we offer innovative technology solutions for utilities and other organizations, but the distinction of being recognized by Gartner offers a special validation," said Michael Woelk, President and CEO of Picarro. "Being named to the Gartner Cool Vendors list will help us impact and change the way the world approaches pipeline safety."

Picarro Surveyor utilizes patented cavity-ring down spectroscopy (CRDS), which is mounted in the back of a vehicle. The mobile technology is able to detect gases at parts per billion (ppb) very quickly and accurately. The radical simplification of this technology utilizes an integrated, cloud-based processing platform, P-Cubed™, which powers the technology's data analysis, mapping, archiving and reporting features. From a mobile tablet or other web-enabled device, users can conduct a survey; view results in real-time; and locate emission sources using Google Maps, Open Street Maps, or Google Earth.

This technology could have an enormous impact on the growing natural gas distribution industry and how they approach pipeline safety. As noted in the report, "Utility CIOs should consider the application of new sensing technologies, such as advanced gas leak detection, for environmental compliance and infrastructure integrity."
