Sunnyvale, CA – Picarro, the maker of the world’s highest precision and easiest to use gas analyzers, announced the addition of Professor Steven Wofsy to the company’s Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Wofsy is currently the Abbott Lawrence Rotch Professor of Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry at Harvard University (Division of Engineering and Applied Science and Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences). He studied chemical physics at the University of Chicago (B.S., 1966) and Harvard (Ph.D. 1971) and focused his subsequent academic research on atmospheric chemistry. Dr. Wofsy has since played a critical role in building out systems and methodologies to measure and assess the impact of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. “We are honored that Steve will be collaborating with Picarro scientists and other eminent researchers on our Scientific Advisory Board,” says Picarro CTO Eric Crosson. “His input will be invaluable as we continue to innovate and to deliver the best solutions for measuring critical atmospheric gases to scientists around the world.”

Dr. Wofsy, who has published over 150 journal articles during a career spanning four decades, is a world leader in greenhouse gas measurement methodologies, instrumentation and experimentation. At Harvard, his work has focused on changes in the composition of the stratosphere and troposphere, including modeling and theoretical research as well as field and laboratory studies. His current research emphasizes the effects of terrestrial ecosystems on the global carbon cycle, and the impacts of climate change and land use on ecosystems and atmospheric composition. Several of his projects focus on quantitative measurements of ecosystem carbon fluxes for time scales spanning instantaneous to decadal, and spatial scales ranging from meters to thousands of kilometers. Dr. Wofsy’s research combines physical, chemical and biological methods. His awards include the American Geophysical Union’s McIlwane prize and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Distinguished Public Service Medal.

Picarro’s relentless focus on technological improvement has enabled its products to become the global gold standard among greenhouse gas measurement instruments and the market leader in optical stable isotope measurement systems. Picarro’s portfolio of innovative solutions is designed to extend scientists’ research capabilities and radically simplify the measurement of air, food, and water at the highest precision levels achievable.
