Atmospheric Science
Atmospheric science includes the physics and chemistry of gases within the Earth’s atmosphere. The concentrations of greenhouse gases that absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range are a major focus of atmospheric science. Global sites monitoring greenhouse gases in the atmosphere measure the distribution and trends of the three main long-term drivers of climate change—carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O). Type of monitoring sites include baseline observatories, tall towers, aircraft, and balloon sampling systems.
