An Inside Look at the World's First 13C+D CM-CRDS Isotope Analyzer

Picarro has just launched the world's first instrument capable of measuring the isotopic ratios of carbon and carbon-bound hydrogen in a solid or liquid sample, simultaneously and simply. What does it look like? How does it work? How are samples prepared? Find out at our 13C+D webinar. We will show the system, pack samples, and show the operation of the instrument. We will also show how the combustion column is prepared and other maintenance items. Finally we will discuss the range of applications for C+D isotopic ratio studies, including food, pharmaceuticals, drug enforcement, and environmental studies.

Presenters: Nabil Saad, Senior Scientist - Picarro / Kevin Cunningham, Isotopic Product Manager - Picarro

Dates: Aug 24, 2011 (10am Pacific Time) / Sept. 7, 2011 (8am Pacific Time) / Sept. 21, 2011 (6pm Pacific Time)

Live Field Measurements of Water Isotopes from Solid Samples: Induction Module System Operations in Remote Locations for Rapid In Situ Sampling

During this Webinar we will broadcast a video stream of sample collection, preparation and analysis all performed in situ with a Picarro IM-CRDS system at a remote mountain location off the grid above San Jose, California. We will perform water isotope analysis on plant leaves, soil and tissue samples while running the analyzer off a battery rig. After the demonstration, we will entertain questions.

Presenter:  Gregor Hsiao, Product Marketing Manager - Picarro

Floating Chamber Measurements of Methane Concentrations: Research Techniques and Overview

Dr. Sherman has been engaged in innovative development of floating chamber measurement methodologies for several years and has extensive experience with Picarro analyzers in this regard. Information covered in the Webinar will include: hardware configuration (plumbing and pumps for recirculating head space gas);easy check for leaks (watch your chamber sink!); power supply for remote locations; pCH4/ pCO2; local wind speed; water turbulence; data analysis; diffusive fluxes; bubble fluxes and estimating the composition of bubbles.

Presenter:  Bradford Sherman, Senior Scientist - CSIRO

Molecular Tracking: New Analytical Technology Secures Food Supply Chain

Molecular tracking is the only way to confirm the geographical origin of raw materials, ingredients, fruit, and vegetables. That’s crucial for Country of Origin Labeling and the Food Safety Modernization Act. Picarro has developed a new technology based on Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy which tells you what barcodes and RFID don’t - where the actual contents of a shipment came from. Not where the container says they came from. It’s a 10 minute test that costs 50 cents per sample. We can also tell you where synthetic products were made – or whether natural products are labeled correctly. Materials can be tested at any point along the chain — growers, distributers, processers, even customs and excise. The authenticity of your raw materials and processed foods can be truly verified. It can protect your brands and save you money.

Introduction to Induction Module - CRDS System for Water Isotope Research: Fast, Field-Deployable Integrated Isotope Prep, Process and Analysis System

The Induction Module - Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (IM-CRDS) system allows researchers to extract all water isotopes from a solid sample  (plant leaves or stems, soil, rocks, small organisms) and measure isotope data with high-precision in under five minutes for leaf samples. Webinar will include a detailed explanation of how the Induction Module uses induction heating to extract all water from small samples and push the water into the Picarro L2120-i  isotopic water analyzer. The presenter will also discuss the capabilities and limitations of the module, and the types of data and information the IM-CRDS system can produce and provide examples of water isotope data obtained from plant materials, soils, animal tissues, etc.

Introduction to Measurement of Carbon Monoxide (CO) for Greenhouse Gas Research

This Webinar will discuss the performance of the carbon monoxide measurement of Picarro’s G2302 carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and water vapor analyzer. A precision of better than 2 ppb is routinely achieved on CO in five minutes of measurement time. We also present a careful study of the cross-interference of other common atmospheric constituents with the measurement of carbon monoxide. Through use of the appropriate methods, one can achieve excellent performance that meets and even exceeds the WMO inter-laboratory comparability standard of ± 2 ppb for trend detection of the marine boundary layer and ± 5 ppb for continental sites experiencing the influence of regional pollution (CO > 250 ppb). The G2302 enables high-quality measurements of both the well-mixed atmosphere as well as pollution plumes downwind of urban centers or biomass burning events.

Picarro Instrument Performance Verification: A New Software Service That Monitors the Health of Instruments and Provides Pro-Active Maintenance Alerts

This new service allows Picarro support engineers to monitor key sensors embedded within Picarro instruments and automatically detect instrument anomalies. IPV allows our support team to move quickly to correct problems and, in some cases, react to potential instrument problems before they happen. The IPV service continuously monitors instrument “health” by collecting readings from sophisticated internal sensors and measuring key performance metrics for critical analyzer components. This information is automatically transmitted to Picarro’s support team via the Internet

Mobile Measurements of Ambient Methane and Hydrogen Sulfide with a Picarro CRDS Analyzer

Emissions plumes of methane and hydrogen sulfide are of interest to researchers, industry and government regulators because methane is a powerful global warming agent and is also a surrogate for more toxic Volatile Organic Compounds in industrial and biological / geochemical processes. Hydrogen sulfide is a noxious gas that is a byproduct of many industrial and biogenic processes, as well as a surrogate gas that, when measured in tandem with methane, can indicate higher concentrations of a wide variety of ambient volatiles. Picarro's G1204 CRDS analyzer coupled with a sonic anemometer, a GPS transceiver and Google Earth software can plot exact plume locations and indicate ambient concentrations of these two molecular species while mounted on a vehicle (plane, boat, car) moving at relatively high speeds (as fast as freeway speeds). This Webinar covers how Picarro's Mobile Monitoring system works and discusses the equipiment involved.
