Greenhouse Gas Measurements

Greenhouse Gas Measurements
Home › Greenhouse Gas Measurements

There is an ever increasing urgency to mitigate global warming by reducing atmospheric greenhouse gas levels - principally CO2 and CH4. These efforts require a massively expanded monitoring (and modeling) effort spanning fundamental laboratory research as well as extensive and remote monitoring. Picarro CRDS gas analyzers are the only GHG instruments to combine state of the art performance with state of the art simplicity, making them the first choice for all GHG monitoring requirements.

Laboratory Research. Many leading GHG research laboratories across the world (e.g. NOAA, Penn State Univ., the Max Planck Inst.) now use Picarro CRDS analyzers because of their superb sensitivity, precision and accuracy, as well as their low overall cost per measurement.

Remote Monitoring. The rugged, low-drift performance enables Picarro analyzers to be transported to, and used in, long-term unmanned operation at remote locations in harsh environments. All of our analyzers are drop tested, vibration tested and operated in an environmental chamber before shipping.

Multiple GHGs. The wavelength precision and resolution of Picarro CRDS analyzers means there is no crosstalk between different atmospheric components, so raw samples can be directly analyzed. And the absence of crosstalk also means a single instrument can simultaneously sample multiple species down to the ppbv level if necessary. Typical combinations include CO2/CH4/H2O and CO/CO2/H2O.

CO2 and CH4 Flux Measurements. Picarro CRDS analyzers provide a simple method of measuring total flux of CO2 and/or CH4, e.g. from a forest canopy or intensive agricultural site. The analyzer can be moved around the perimeter or installed or connected at several measurement points.

CH4 from Landfills. The portability and remote operation of Picarro CRDS analyzers makes them ideal for continuous fenceline measurement of CH4 flux from landfills as well as for locating the source of culprit CH4 plumes.
