The world's first onboard software to screen and quantify contamination in isotopic water samples.
Automatically flags samples contaminated with hydrocarbons
Identifies contaminants such as methane and methanol
Measures contamination to ppb levels
Speeds sample prep method development
Sample contamination from organic compounds is a growing problem for isotopic water research. Such contamination often causes spectroscopic irregularities which can skew analysis results. These irregularities were virtually impossible to detect. Until now. Introducing Picarro's ChemCorrect, a unique software add-on that automatically spots irregularities caused by the traces of hydrocarbons. ChemCorrect flags samples compromised with organics and can, for some cases, identify and quantify the specific contaminant. This innovative software system provides researchers with an unparalleled level confidence in their sample fidelity and, by extension, their data and findings. In addition, researchers can reprocess their data to correct for the spectral impact of these undesired species. ChemCorrect is standard on Picarro's L2120-i and L2130-i water analyzers. (For upgrades to existing analyzers, contact your Picarro representative).
How widespread is water sample contamination? In some parts of the world 70% of groundwater samples contain trace levels of organic compounds. Even supposedly 'pure' samples, such as polar region ice cores, can be accidentally contaminated by chemicals used the collection process (drilling fluids and anti-freeze, for example). ChemCorrect remedies this problem and provides easy to interpret color coded flags for each water sample. The red, yellow and green flags not only provide clarity about sample contamination but also provide a metric by which the efficacy of sample preparation can be evaluated. Get ChemCorrect and clean up your samples before they pollute your data and your research.
