President and CEO
Alex Balkanski is a long-time industry leader with a demonstrated track record of delivering growth in revenue and profits, while achieving recognition for outstanding customer satisfaction. Prior to joining Picarro, Alex was a managing partner at Benchmark and served as a member of the Picarro Board of Directors. Alex led C-Cube and DiviCom, two pioneering companies that drove the MPEG standard to dominance in consumer electronics and broadcasting. Alex founded C-Cube in 1988. In 1994, he took the company public, and in 1998 he orchestrated C-Cube’s acquisition of DiviCom. Previously, he was a board member of Ambarella (AMBA), Decru (acquired by Network Appliance), Entrisphere (acquired by Ericsson), and Infinera (INFN). Alex holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Harvard University, as well as a B.S. from Harvard College.
Chief Technical Officer
Prior to joining Picarro in 1999, Eric held research positions at Stanford University, including senior research associate at the High Energy Physics Laboratory (HEPL), where he directed research in the areas of medical applications, accelerator science, solid-state/surface science, molecular materials/chemistry, biophysics, and free electron laser science. At Stanford, Eric developed a number of key cavity ring-down spectroscopy techniques. Eric has been a project manager at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory at Duke University, where he helped lead the design and construction of an atomic beam polarized ion source. Eric received his Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Chief Financial Officer
Laura Perrone has extensive experience leading technology companies across multiple industries through rapid growth and expansion. Prior to joining Picarro in November, 2011, Laura was Senior Vice President and CFO of Omneon (acquired by Harmonic in 2010), a maker of technology products for digital media distribution, management and storage. Prior to Omneon, Perrone held CFO roles at software and chip design companies Icarian (acquired by Workstream) and Rendition (acquired by Micron Technologies). Laura has a B.S. in Applied Economics from the University of San Francisco.
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Energy
Brenda Glaze brings two decades of industrial, networking, computing and consumer customer sales success to Picarro. She has extensive experience in building and managing world class field and marketing organizations, as well as successful experience in the startup environment. Most recently, Brenda served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Dust Networks (acquired by Linear Technology), establishing them as the market leader for 802.15.4 wireless sensor networks, driving M2M communications and the Internet of Things for many end markets. Prior to that, Brenda held the positions as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Chelsio Communications, Vice President of Worldwide Sales for C-Cube Microsystems, and a variety of sales management positions with VLSI Technology (acquired by Philips Semiconductor). Brenda has a B.S in Business Management from Arizona State University.
Jan Willem Poelmann
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Science
Jan Willem Poelmann is responsible for all Global Sales & Marketing activities of our scientific instruments business. He has extensive experience in international sales, marketing, alliance and partnership management of innovative high technology products in fast pace, public as well as start-up environments.
Before moving to our headquarters in Santa Clara, Jan Willem lead Picarro’s - European and Asia Pacific Sales and Operations. Jan Willem previously was with Juniper Networks, where he was responsible for their Service Provider Alliance business in EMEA from 2005-2010. Prior to Juniper, Jan Willem held various executive sales and marketing positions at Dell, Corvis Corporation, and Nortel Networks. Jan Willem received his B.A. and M.B.A. from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Vice President, Operations
Tony Banta previously served as senior vice president of manufacturing operations at Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) and overall spent eight years in manufacturing and operations at Calix. From September 1995 to June 2005, Mr. Banta served in various capacities at Cisco, including vice president of worldwide operations. From March 1993 to September 1995, Mr. Banta served as vice president of manufacturing at Grand Junction Networks, Inc. Previously, Mr. Banta served in senior management positions, including vice president of manufacturing at Vitalink Communications Corporation and Teledyne MEC. Mr. Banta holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Golden Gate University, a Master of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Wichita State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics from San Jose State College. Mr. Banta also served ten years in the United States Air Force.
